DFW PTA - Model Program
|
Serves as the primary vehicle for the delivery of social services to urban youth and families. The core of the program is promoting healthy school and home environments that maximize student success. As such, PTA provides a myriad of services that address sexual abstinence, parenting education, and the prevention of drug and alcohol use, violence, and school dropout. Students in over 70 Dallas/Fort Worth area public schools have access to school-based and after-school programs offered by PTA that include:
- Tutoring
- Mentoring
- Life Skills Workshops
- Two Annual Back-to-School Rallies
- Athletics and Recreation

Gives over 2,500 individuals annually access to technology and related training in education and career development. Census 2000 data indicate that poverty and low education attainment are factors that influence computer ownership and Internet usage. The PTA Technology Institute, an authorized Microsoft testing center, integrates a variety of software applications that teach and enhance skills in the following programs:
- Supplemental Education Program for High School Youth
- GED Preparation
- Adult Literacy
- Computer Training
- Career Development/Job Placement Assistance
- Spanish
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
- Job Fairs
- The Youth Entrepreneur Program

Addresses pressing issues such as inadequate nutrition, housing, clothing, and health care that often prevent individuals from taking advantage of life-changing opportunities that can impact their welfare. As such, basic physical needs must be met before people can move beyond their present circumstances to act on decisions that will improve their futures. To help this process, PTA has implemented the following services that assist over 8,000 individuals and families annually. These services are:
- Food Pantry
- Clothing Thrift Store
- HUD Certified Homebuyer Seminars
- Credit Counseling & Repair
- Down Payment & Closing Cost Assistance
- Annual Housing Fair
- Preventive Medical Checks
- Thanksgiving Food Baskets Giveaway
- Christmas Toys Giveaway

The Family Care Pregnancy Center

Offers long-term, holistic solutions to eradicate an epidemic that’s destroying minority communities across the country. Unlike traditional pregnancy centers that only concentrate on the immediate effects of unplanned pregnancies, the Family Care Pregnancy Center tackles the numerous needs of the woman, boyfriend, husband and family members.
This is done through the provision of life-changing services that advances the spiritual, social, health and economic well-being of individuals and fam- ilies. The Center offers services in the following categories:
- Pregnancy Services
- Clinical Services
- Support Services
- Vocational and Life Skills Services
